About a dozen pigs euthanized after livestock trailer tips over in rural Story County

A trailer carrying approximately 100 hogs went into a ditch near Zearing on Monday, injuring an estimated 12 hogs that had to be euthanized, according to the Story County Sheriff's Office.
Around 10:15 a.m. Monday, deputies received a report of a semi-truck and trailer lying on its side in a ditch near Highway 65 and 160th Street. The driver was traveling southbound when he lost control and veered onto the shoulder, a news release said. He was not injured, and new gravel had recently been applied to the roadway, according to the release.
Highway 65 at 160th Street was reduced to one-lane traffic for a few hours Monday, Sgt. Elizabeth Quinn told the Ames Tribune.
Although a Facebook post from the sheriff's office said the roadway was shut down, Quinn said that one lane was open to traffic, and "if both lanes were closed, it was very brief."
