The Sprout: Proposed Liberal party resolution calls for Canada to be an agriculture superpower

The Liberal Party of Canada’s policy convention kicks off on Thursday and there is an agriculture resolution up for discussion. Liberal MP Kody Blois’s resolution, which is supported by the Liberal caucus, is one of the final policies to be debated. It urges the Government of Canada to develop a suite of policies to help position Canada as an agricultural superpower.
The resolution reads:
The Liberal Party of Canada urge the Government of Canada to develop a suite of policies to ensure that Canada will be positioned as an agricultural superpower following the cessation of the COVID-19 pandemic, with attention to
– Focusing on investments to support regional agrifood capacity including extension of growing seasons
– Bolstering investment in research and innovation to ensure Canadian producers are globally competitive
– Increasing agricultural exports as a percentage of and
– Working with industry to help make the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Be it further resolved that the Liberal Party of Canada urge the Government of Canada to consult with all the provinces, territories, First Nations and all other relevant stakeholders to position Canada as an agricultural superpower.
