TIME Names Impossible Pork One of the Best 100 Inventions of 2020

The iconic publication recognizes the great potential of a plant-based alternative to pork—the world’s most-consumed animal protein.

This week, iconic publication TIME released its top 100 inventions of 2020 list, naming plant-based Impossible Pork as one of three companies featured in the Food & Drink category. In January, Impossible Foods unveiled its plant-based pork during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. At the show, Impossible Foods announced that fast-food chain Burger King—which already serves its Impossible Burger at all of its locations—added Impossible Pork to its menu at select locations for a limited test-run as part of a Croissan’wich breakfast sandwich. While the company has yet to roll out Impossible Pork on a larger scale, Impossible Foods aims to eventually commercialize the plant-based meat alternative in China, the largest consumer and importer of pork in the world.

 

“The world’s most-consumed animal protein is pork—and its farming results in a slew of environmental issues, including pollution due to swine waste,” TIME wrote. “Impossible Foods, which wowed the world with its rendition of a burger in 2015, aims to tackle these issues with a plant-based pork substitute, Impossible Pork. While the favorable environmental impacts of a pork alternative are clear, plans for a commercial rollout of Impossible Pork are still in the works.”
