DES MOINES, Iowa — The fate of the 2020 Iowa State Fair remains uncertain as entertainment for the weeklong event is postponed due to COVID-19.

On Monday, Chris Stapleton announced he would postpone his grandstand performance until next year.

The Bill Riley Talent Search announced Friday that its 2020 season is postponed to 2021 because of the ongoing threat of COVID-19.

Regular vendors at the Iowa State Fair said they are waiting to hear if their biggest events will go on as planned.

Jennifer Castle, who has operated Cindy’s Place at the Iowa State Fair for nearly two decades, said pulling out of the fair is out of the question.

“There's a potential we'd lose our contract and never be able to come back,” Castle said.

Castle said she enjoys the fair's atmosphere and feeding smiling faces in the long lines she sees every year.

She said that, while the State Fair isn't the only event Cindy’s Place attends, it is the biggest.

"We do Jefferson Bell Tower Festival and a few other events each summer, all of which have already canceled and rescheduled for August,” Castle said.

KCCI reached out to organizers of the Iowa State Fair and learned they continue to work on a decision on the fair's future...

The 2020 Ohio State Fair has been cancelled

By Amie Simpson, Brownfield

May 21, 2020

The Ohio Expositions Commission voted today to cancel the Ohio State Fair. The fair was originally scheduled for July 29-August 9.

Members of the commission expressed concern for public health because of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the “financial feasibility of hosting a socially distant fair.”

Andy Doehrel, chair of the commission, said they decided to cancel the fair knowing how easily the virus spreads in large groups and knowing that the financial ramifications of hosting a reduced-capacity fair would be too great.

The Ohio State Fair management team says it will share more information about the fair’s digital content in coming weeks. The Ohio Expositions Commission says it is focused on developing a strategy to responsibly reopen its year-round facilities when appropriate and welcome guests back in 2021...
