A survey of producers in 30 states by Allendale Incorporated points to increased corn and soybean acreage in 2020.

Planted area for corn is expected to be 94.631 million acres, the third largest on record, up 4.931 million from 2019, and above the USDA’s projection of 94.0 million acres from the Ag Outlook Forum. Using a trend line yield of 177.3 bushels per acre and harvested area of 86.691 million acres, that implies record production of 15.369 billion bushels.

Soybean acreage is seen at 83.740 million, also the third highest on record and 7.64 million larger than last year, but less than the Ag Outlook Forum guess of 85.0 million acres. Allendale’s trend line yield of 50.3 bushels per acre and harvested area of 82.773 million acres implies production of 4.163 billion bushels, the fourth largest on record.
