The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week at $208.49, which was only $0.47 lower compared to the previous Friday, but had been higher several days. It is now below last year, when it was $214.51. We ended the year just a little lower than last year after being higher most of the year. However, it did start get some legs on the following Monday and was $209.50 on Wednesday, January 8th.

This week, the daily Choice rib primal was only about $1 lower by Friday, starting to level out now, after that typical December drop. The daily Choice loin was $3 lower. The daily Choice chuck and round were steady to $2 higher. Chuck and round prices normally improve in January when roasts are used more in family meals.
