Jared and Ivanka Spotted at Route 1 Burger King

Of all the places you could think you might spot Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, the Burger King in College Park on Baltimore Avenue probably isn’t one of them.
It was a typical Friday night for Matt Giorgianni, an assistant research professor in the biology department at the University of Maryland, who had just picked up his nine-year old son from ice hockey practice at the nearby Wells Ice Rink. Because it was around 8 p.m. his son was hungry and wanted to grab a bite to eat at the nearby Burger King. So they made a quick stop for dinner.
The restaurant wasn’t very busy, with just one other customer who didn’t seem to take notice of the fact that Jared, Ivanka and their three kids were ordering food at the counter.
Matt spotted their youngest, Theodore, wearing a stormtrooper shirt and a Burger King paper crown. Jared was dressed casually in a sweatshirt while Ivanka was dressed nicely and wearing makeup, likely from taping an interview on Fox News earlier that day.
At first, Matt wasn’t sure if it was actually Jared and Ivanka, thinking maybe they were just University of Maryland students dressed in Halloween costumes to look like Jared and Ivanka for Halloween. It wasn’t until Matt saw their order on the screen amount to over $100 worth of Whoppers and fries that he was convinced...

MUMBAI: Fast food chain Burger King posted a 66% growth in sales in India in the year to March 2019 and significantly narrowed losses on the back of aggressive expansion, entry level pricing and largest vegetarian menu within global quick service restaurant chains.
The US chain that entered the Indian market in 2014 posted sales of Rs 644 crore in FY18-19 while its losses reduced to Rs 16 crore. A year ago, it had sales of Rs 389 crore with net loss of Rs 63 crore, data sourced from Veratech Intelligence showed. For Burger King, India has been the fastest growing market in terms of store expansion.
Last fiscal, it added about 58 stores, taking the store count to 187.
“Even before we started the first restaurant, we were clear that Burger King’s offerings need to be truly Indian. Our menu width means we are able to offer burgers that cater to the Indian palate and attract customers looking for everyday value,” said Rajeev Varman, CEO, Burger King India, claiming that it has turned Ebitda positive during the fiscal. “In the last five years, we have focused on a strong expansion plan through strategic investment in brand building and national supply chain development and operational efficiencies,” Varman said...

Australian fast-food chain Hungry Jack’s—a franchise brand of the Burger King Corporation—will soon launch a new meatless burger patty made by plant-based meat startup v2food.
Created in partnership with Australia’s national science agency CSIRO, Main Sequence Ventures, and Hungry Jack’s founder Jack Cowin, v2food launched this week with an aim to provide an affordable and environmentally sustainable alternative to meat.
Built with CSIRO’s existing technology and science CSIRO, the startup’s development of its burger patty focused on making sure it had the mouthfeel and texture and can be cooked the same as animal-based meat.
“We had a taste test recently in which I thought I had been tricked,” Cowin said. “I thought it was beef but it wasn’t; it was the v2Food product. I’ve eaten a lot of beef hamburger patties in my day, and I couldn’t tell the difference.”
Earlier this year, Cowin invested $1 million into the development of the burger patty, which is expected to launch in Hungry Jack’s locations before the end of 2019 before rolling out to the retail market at a price point similar to beef. In recent years...
