Kraft Ordered to Pay More Fines for Package Weight Shortages

The Illinois-based Kraft Foods Group, Inc. has been charged with its third civil forfeiture in two years of Wisconsin's weights and measures laws. According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, the company, which owns Oscar Mayer, will pay a civil forfeiture of over $13,900 and take systemwide corrective actions following alleged violations of short-weight packages found in Wisconsin stores.

 

The agency says an inspection by the DATCP found nine instances of false representation of quantity in Oscar Mayer products sold at several stores throughout the state last summer. The short-weight products included eight packages of Oscar Mayer-brand cooked ham and one package of Oscar Mayer-brand honey ham in seven communities.

 

Since this is the company's third civil forfeiture for the same offence, the company will take corrective actions systemwide and additional actions in its Davenport, Iowa plant...
