Hong Kong Reports HPAI, H5N1 Outbreak in Birds

The Chinese veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a black-headed gull or Larus ridibundus.

 

According to The Poultry Site, the World Organization for Animal Health received an immediate notification earlier this week.

 

A black-headed gull was collected on January 25 at Mouse Island children's playground, Hoi Wing Road, Tuen Mun. The black-headed gull is a common winter visitor in Hong Kong.

 

The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined...
