All out war has been declared on the wild hogs of Young, Archer and Clay county.

The Texas Animal Damage Control group has decided to concentrate its entire state effort in those counties to test the effectiveness of an all out campaign. About $1 million is available for the feral pig war later this month. Organizers are hoping to sign up large adjoining tracts of land in those three counties, then round up as many of the wild hogs as possible into concentrated areas, and shoot them from helicopters.

The loss to grazing and farm land in Texas to feral hogs is estimated at more than $50 million annually, with about two million wild pigs roaming the state.

Travis Ball, Archer Co. Ag. Ext. Agent: "They tear up the land, they go in and root up the crops, they'll go down and eat up the wheat out of drill rows, they tear up fields and fence lines. They're just tough on the general land and this is a way the farmers can have an economic advantage to get over them and to be able to control these animals."

The program director will be in graham monday, july 28-th to provide information and to sign up land owners.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Young County arena.

All land owners in the northern half of Young County, southern half of Clay County and all of Archer County are invited to attend. You can get more information or enroll by phone at 940-549-0737.
