Bernstein thinks Kroger (NYSE:KR) will attract an offer as Amazon's purchase of Whole Foods sparks new M&A activity within the grocery sector.

 

Ahold Delhaize (OTCQX:ADRNY, OTCQX:AHODF) is identified by the investment firm as the most likely acquirer of Kroger. A combination of the two would create a $180B grocery behemoth and generate significant cost synergies.

Kroger OKs agreements with UFCW Local 1996

The Kroger Co. Atlanta Division, which has several locations in Cobb County, announced that associates working at Kroger stores in the Atlanta metro and surrounding area have ratified new labor agreements with UFCW Local 1996.

 

“These are among the most significant agreements that have been negotiated here and across the country,” said Steve Lomax, president of UFCW 1996. The new agreements provide significant pay raises through new pay scales and hourly increases.

 

“In addition to more money for associates over the term, it continues to provide good, affordable health care and secure pension benefits,” Lomax said.

 

“We are pleased to reach agreements that make significant financial investments in our associates and enables them to continue to serve our customers with excellence,” said Bruce Lucia, president of Kroger’s Atlanta Division...

The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR) Atlanta division associates working at Kroger stores in the Atlanta metro and surrounding area have ratified new labor agreements with UFCW Local 1996.

 

The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR) shares slumped -9.24% to $22.29 on Friday.

 

“We are pleased to reach agreements that are good for our associates. These agreements provide good wage increases, affordable health care and stable pension funds to support our associates’ retirement,” said Bruce Lucia, president of Kroger’s Atlanta division. “These agreements come after thoughtful and productive work by both the company and union bargaining committees. I want to thank our associates for supporting these agreements and for the excellent service they provide to our customers every day.”
