The fate of Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, whose local presence has dwindled down to two regional outlets, could be determined in the next few weeks.
The Memphis-based chain, officially called Perkins & Marie Callender’s Inc., may put itself up for sale and/or file for bankruptcy protection, according various restaurant industry reports.
Perkins has an outlet in Olean and Niagara Falls, Ontario. At one time, it had restaurants in Amherst, Cheektowaga, Niagara Falls, Hamburg and Buffalo.
Vivian Brooks, Perkins spokesperson, confirmed the chain, which also includes the Marie Callender’s restaurants, is in the process of being sold.
“While there is a possibility that a buyer may avail themselves to a legal/financial provision in the bankruptcy code that would allow them to acquire the company free of certain liabilities and obligation, it is important that a possible bankruptcy filing be viewed in this context rather than a financial necessity due to performance issues,” Brooks said.
