Cattle truck crashes in Redmond; some animals destroyed

REDMOND, Ore. - Northbound U.S. Highway 97 was closed and a detour in place for several hours Thursday after an overturned cattle truck that left some animals on the highway. Some were destroyed, one by police due to its aggressive nature, authorities said.

 

An alert sent by ODOT shortly after 5 a.m. said the crash occurred on the highway at Glacier Avenue in Redmond at milepost 119. Redmond police said the road was closed in both directions for some time.

 

A detour was established using city streets, and motorists were advised to avoid the area as crews worked to remove cows from the overturned truck.

 

Redmond police Lt. Curtis Chambers later confirmed that police “had to put down one steer, with permission from the owner, due to the aggressiveness of the animal, damage to property and the threat to other motorists in the area.”
