Truck hauling pigs catches fire on I-80 in Placer County

At least 5 of the animals euthanized, officials say

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. (KCRA) —

 

A truck driver was hauling an estimated 200 pigs near Auburn on Sunday evening when one of his tires caught fire, which spread to the trailer holding the animals, the California Highway Patrol said.

 

One of the driver's tires blew out at about 6:45 p.m. near where Interstate 80 intersects with Highway 49, according to Dave Martinez with the CHP's Auburn office.

 

As the driver was pulling over, a different tire caught fire, which spread to the trailer.
