CAB: 1 in 5 Fed Cattle in North America Grade Prime Thanks to Producers' Commitment to Quality

Arguably, Certified Angus Beef is the most recognizable beef brand out there. One of those that’s had a part to play in the brand’s success is Mark McCully, vice president of production. In a recent interview, he told Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays, the success story has been one in the making from a lot of different directions - including cattle producers who have stepped up and raised the right kind of cattle. According to him, “it’s been a fun ride.”
“It really has been a fun story to tell. I think we’ve seen tremendous growth in the brand over it’s 40, going on 41-year history and ultimately - it’s because of cattlemen responding to consumer demands,” McCully said. “We’ve put a way better higher-quality beef product out in front of our consumer as a whole and beef cattlemen have just done such a great job of elevating the quality level and the ultimate experience of their end product.”
McCully makes no bones about the fact that consumer demand has been largely responsible for the growth the brand has seen. That demand for high-quality beef and producers’ intentional focus on improving their product, specifically marbling, has led to a remarkable shift in the overall quality of the beef that is available in today’s marketplace - with more premium grade and prime cuts available than ever before.
