Harris Ranch Beef Holding Company, which operates a beef slaughterhouse and packing plant in Selma and a cattle feedlot in Coalinga, has been sold to Hanford-based Central Valley Meat Holding Company.

 

Other Harris Farms businesses, including the Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant off Interstate 5 near Coalinga and Harris Farms’ horse division as well as farming operations for a range of crops including nuts, vegetables, citrus and grapes, are not included in the sale. The deal was announced jointly on Tuesday by John Harris, CEO of Harris Farms Inc., and Central Valley Meat Co. president/CEO Brian Coelho.

 

Together, the two companies will comprise the seventh largest beef processer and packer in the U.S. The price and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.

 

Even after the sale, Harris Ranch Beef and Central Valley Meat will operate independently and continue to produce and market their own brands, according to the companies’ announcement. Harris Ranch Beef markets its ground beef, specialty cuts and Angus beef in retail grocery stores as well as to restaurants and other food-service customers under the Harris Ranch brand.

 

Central Valley Meat’s brands include products marketed to retailers and food-service companies under the Western Premium Beef, Blue Diamond Beef and Central Valley Meat brands. Another of its companies, CLW Foods Inc., markets ground beef under the Moran’s brand.

 

Harris Farms dates to its establishment in 1937 by Jack Harris; his son John Harris now oversees the operations. Harris Ranch beef operations chairman Dave Wood will stay on with Harris Farms as its president...

Hanford, Calif. and Selma, Calif. – April 9, 2019 – Harris Farms, Inc. (“Harris Farms”) Owner John Harris and Central Valley Meat Company, Inc. President and CEO Brian Coelho announced today that Central Valley Meat Holding Company will acquire Harris Ranch Beef Holding Company (“Harris Ranch Beef”), including its wholly owned subsidiaries, Harris Feeding Company and Harris Ranch Beef Company. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

 

“We have known and respected John Harris and Harris Ranch Beef for decades, and I am pleased to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to continue the business’ family-owned legacy and pursue its tremendous potential for growth here in the Central Valley,” said Mr. Coelho. “While Central Valley Meat Company and Harris Ranch Beef will continue to operate independently, I expect both businesses and their respective customers to benefit from the companies’ shared knowledge, extensive resources and expanded product offering.”

 

Under the agreement, Harris Ranch Beef and Central Valley Meat Company will operate independently, with both companies retaining their respective brands.

None of Harris Farms’ other entities are impacted by the transaction. Harris Farms’ Hospitality Division, including the Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant, Farms Division, Horse Division, and River Ranch will remain fully owned by Harris Farms. Mr. Wood will remain with Harris Farms as its President.
