Buffalo County barn housing 4,000 hogs collapses, starts on fire

TOWN OF NAPLES A Buffalo County barn housing 4,000 hogs collapsed before catching fire Wednesday morning east of Mondovi.


According to a release from the Buffalo County Sheriff's Department, at approximately 5:40 a.m., the office received a report of a barn fire at Holden Farms, W20 Gonty Road. A portion of the barn had collapsed overnight, prior to the fire starting.


The release said fire crews from Buffalo, Trempealeau, Pepin and Dunn counties battled the blaze for several hours.


The release reported that a majority of the swine died as a result of the fire.

MONDOVI, Wis. (WKBT) - A large hog barn fire Wednesday morning in Buffalo County killed close to 4,000 swine.


According to the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, the fire call came in around 5:40 a.m. on March 13 reporting a fire at Holden Farms, W20 Gonty Road, east of Naples.


A portion of the barn collapsed prior to the fire starting, authorities said.


Fire crews from Buffalo, Trempealeau, Eau Claire, Pepin and Dunn Counties battled the fire for several hours.
