Local abattoir forced to stop pig processing after extreme vegan campaigning

Pig farmers in East Sussex have less than four weeks to find a new abattoir after mounting pressure from vegan activists has forced a local farm to no longer accept pigs.

Tottingworth Farm, Heathfield, said the decision to no longer process pigs at its Broad Oak Abattoir was partially due to years of noise from extreme campaigners but also due to falling pig numbers in general.


The move will be official as of the end of March.


A spokesperson said: “It is not just because of vegan protestors – who have been coming for a while – but pig numbers have gone down considerably over the years.
