Cherokee meat plant to reopen late this month

The former Tyson Deli plant in Cherokee will be put back into production later this month after being idled four years ago, according to Iowa Food Group officials.

 

The company and its owners and principal investors Jeremy Robinson and Mack Zimmerman of Fort Worth, Texas purchased the plant with plans to process beef, pork and poultry value-added products for direct sale to groceries and restaurants. Some renovation and refitting has been taking place since the announcement of the purchase in September.

 

The company received about 400 applications from prospective workers, according to a Radio Iowa report, many of them residents who are currently having to drive to work outside the county.
