CLARKSVILLE — A semi trailer carrying pig hearts was struck by a train in Clarksville overnight.
The Clark County Sheriff's Office responded to the crossing at U.S. 31 and Coopers Lane around 12:30 a.m., Col. Scottie Maples said. The driver was able to get out of the trailer before the train was struck. The driver did not sustain injuries.
Maples said police believe the trailer got stuck on the tracks, though it's unclear how. It took until around 10 a.m. for the intersection to be cleaned up and reopened.
Maples said the the crossing's lights and bells were working at the time of the wreck. The crossing does not have arms.
Clarksville police responded to an incident at the same intersection on Dec. 20. A train employee notified police that the train had struck the bumper of a van, but that the vehicle left the scene. No injuries were reported.
